Zoning regulations forced the design to expand vertically. Thus, during schematic design conceptual models and massing came to resemble a series of stacked cubes. Existing roofs became habitable exterior spaces to tangent interior additions. Separate volumes remain independent and are identified by exterior cladding material: stucco, metal and horizontal wood siding.
