Thomas and Elissa attended graduate school together at Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) in 1987. Since graduation, Thomas has worked for Frank Gehry Partners, Frank Israel, Moule & Polyzoides, and Steinberg Architects in Los Angeles, and joined Scrafano Architects as an associate in 2007.
Thomas received a B.F.A. with honors from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. He received his Master’s in Architecture, with distinction, from SCI-Arc in 1991.
Thomas is also currently teaching interior architecture at the Art Institute of California, Hollywood. He has taught at the University of California at Irvine and has been an educator, exhibition designer, and curator for the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Thomas also served as the administrator for the Los Angeles Forum for Architecture and Urban Design, a nonprofit organization supporting architecture, design, and urbanism in Los Angeles.
While art and architecture are Thomas’ first passions, a close second is his garden. When he is not buried in work and teaching, he will be found scratched and dirty in his expansive garden. He loves traveling and taking clippings from plants around the world.
