Scrafano Architects

Karin Mahle has been an associate at Scrafano Architects since 1999. Prior to joining the firm, She worked in the Los Angeles offices of Frederick Fisher and Eric Owen Moss, where she met Elissa in 1992.

Karin studied architecture at the University of Stuttgart and SCI-Arc. After a short stint in Paris, she realized she was not seeing much of her favorite city and moved to Los Angeles for the architecture and lifestyle. She loves the lush California landscapes, the historic buildings and fabric of the city. It is so different than the European cities she knew as a child that she forever finds new areas and even dreams of neighborhoods she has not seen yet.

She is passionate about interior design, literature, fashion and ballet. When not working, she enjoys her life near the beach, reading, and looking for architectural salvage pieces. She likes to drive to Santa Barbara and San Francisco for more West Coast styles. She has written four books on West Coast architecture and is constantly exploring new stores, restaurants and hotels.
