For more than 20 years, Carol Barrett’s design work has spanned the disciplines of architecture, landscape architecture, and urban planning. She and Elissa have known each other since 1988. Her unique background has allowed her to create projects that seamlessly integrate natural and built environments.
Prior to joining Scrafano Architects in 2002, Carol was an associate at Rios Clementi Hale Studios, Studio Bau:ton, Katherine Spitz and Associates Landscape Architects, and StudioWorks in Los Angeles. Carol’s designs have been published in Lotus and Pamphlet Architecture and recognized by professional award programs.
Carol earned a B.S. in Architecture from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1988, and a Master’s in Architecture with honors from SCI-Arc in 1993 in Los Angeles.
She recently designed and helped facilitate fund-raising and construction of an outdoor classroom and learning garden for her children’s school, and has been very involved in the school’s art enrichment program for the past nine years.
She loves to play soccer with her kids, Alexander and Ethan (when she’s not watching their games), and plays football with her extended family every Thanksgiving.
She was fortunate to have traveled a great deal with her family while growing up. Trips to different countries and cultures sparked her love of architecture, her curiosity, and led to greater understanding of other cultures.
